PROCEEDINGS PAPER GUIDELINES

ISSW 2023 - Bend, Oregon, USA

All ISSW presenters - both oral and poster presenters - are required to submit a conference proceedings paper that details their presentation and will be included in the ISSW 2023 Proceedings. The proceedings will only be published electronically at the Montana State University Library.

Manuscripts must be received by August 31, 2023.

We cannot guarantee that late papers will be included in the conference line-up and the proceedings publication. Your oral or poster presentation slot is conditional on us receiving your paper by August 31, 2023.

Papers are limited to no more than 8 pages, including references, appendices, etc. and must be formatted on A4 pages (210 mm x 297 mm) with 2.5 cm (about 1 inch) margins on all sides.

PUBLISHING YOUR PAPER IN A PEER-REVIEWED JOURNAL

Building on the tradition of previous ISSWs, we take this opportunity to compile a special issue that summarizes the latest developments in snow science and avalanche risk management research. ISSW 2023 authors have the opportunity to publish their studies in a special ISSW issue in Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences (NHESS). We invite all ISSW presenters in a peer-reviewed scientific publication to submit manuscripts that explain their research in more detail than in the conference proceedings. To be considered, these papers need to be scientifically more rigorous, which means that they contain technical information, additional details on methods, and a more complete description of results and conclusions. These papers will undergo rigorous public peer review

Avalanche risk management is an inherently interdisciplinary challenge that requires an in-depth understanding of both the natural phenomenon and the people interacting with that hazard. Hence, we encourage submissions from a wide range of topics including but not limited to avalanche dynamics, snow stability, snow remote sensing, snow modeling, and snow instrumentation, but also decision-making and the human aspects of avalanche risk management. We welcome theoretical contributions but encourage authors to highlight the practical relevance of their work.

The start date for submission is October 15, 2023 and the end date for submission is March 15, 2024. The Special Issue - Latest developments in snow science and avalanche risk management research – merging theory and practice - portal will open October 15, 2023. More information can be found here.
